Use your legs .. that's what they're there for
On my travels I constantly see people just stand on escalators or travelators not moving one muscle. It made me think about three things we seem to always talk about:
1. We are busy and there is not enough time in our lives to get everything done
2. Not having enough time to exercise
3. Our love to multitask (i.e. kill two birds with one stone)
Something I have focussed on this year is to ensure that wherever I am that I use the stairs and always avoid the escalators/travelators. Furthermore, with my faithful JawBone UP I track to hitting 10,000 steps a day. For more details about the benefits of walking you should read Mark Sisson’s post on Mark’s Daily Apple (URL: http://www.marksdailyapple.com/the-definitive-guide-to-walking/) .
Last week I stayed in a hotel where I was on the 6th floor; yes I used the stairs up and down every day. When I park the car at the office or at the grocery store I never drive around to find the best park. Alternatively I find a park where I have to walk further to get to the entrance and get the steps in. Even though I live in Los Angeles I spend as much time using my bicycle or walking to destinations versus going for the car. While walking by myself I listen to podcasts or listen to music. Better yet I call someone I haven’t talked to for a while on the way to the destination.
Use your legs more, something to think about
