The McKinsey Mind by Ethan M. Rasiel, Paul N. Friga
My Rating of “The McKinsey Mind” by Ethan M. Rasiel, Paul N. Friga: 5 / 10
McKinsey is a name in business that has a solid reputation. It is an organisation in which your career accelerates resulting in infinite opportunity. I always have said that if I could have started my career over again I would have worked at a consulting firm like McKinsey. The fundamentals, ways of thinking and networking are core skills and experiences one can use for the rest of their lives.
It’s why I have read a few books on successful consulting organisations and how they work. The McKinsey Mind is a book written by McKinsey Alumni with many case studies, examples and anecdotes provided by more McKinsey Alumni. The assumption from the cover of the book means the reader is secured into thinking they’ll learn about how to think like a McKinsey. At a high level this is true however I was left with a lot of detail lacking. The story dances at the surface and the real ingredients in the depths are non-existent. You are left with learning more common soft skills and 101 approaches to consulting.
There isn’t much else to say about this book. One must keep in mind that the secrets of McKinsey stay with McKinsey. It is why the firm is who it is.
