Review: The Godfather by Mario Puzo

The Godfather by Mario Puzo
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I can remember just being old enough to watch the Godfather series when I was a young boy. I was mesmorised with the themes of family and business wrapped around the criminal underground. I have my Father to thank for that experience and have since watched the films many times. It was only recently that I thought of reading the book which would take me back into this dark world. It did more than that; it took me deeper into the characters, the story and the core Corleone family values (the good, the bad and the ugly). Interestingly enough Mario Puzo wrote this book primarily because he was in debt and needed to make some money for his family. The resulting book though still brings readers into his world of the mafia, organised crime and of course trust and respect. For those who have seen the movies, I thoroughly recommend this book as it delves deeper into various characters, their backgrounds and ultimately their actions.
