It is not often that I write a book review for fiction. Ready Player One is definitely that exception. I will not be giving away any spoilers therefore feel free to read this review without the worry of me ruining it for you!

I also rarely review a fictional book with a score of 10 / 10. Why? I haven’t read a book like this in a while where I have been a. fully immersed (while speed reading) and b. never wanting to put the book down. I would read this book in the morning when I woke up, at lunch if I had spare time and prior to going to bed. All of the other books I have been reading have taken a back seat for the last week. The last time I can remember feeling was when I was a child. I would enter into another version of reality back then. Unfortunately this hasn’t happened as an adult until reading Ready Player One. This could be due to the Sci-Fi like theme of the book and the constant references to 80s pop-culture and technology.

The second thing for me is the realism; stay with me here! Ready Player One is set in the future and is heavily based on virtual reality technology. That said, Ernest Cline still was able to separate the real world and the virtual world and build a story around both. Furthermore it shed some insight to how the world may look in 5 – 10 years time given the way technology is evolving (IMHO I believe 2045 is too far out for the type of technology to be a reality, it will come a lot faster).

If you like technology, pop-culture and fiction then this book is a good combination for you! I have had many people tell me to read this and I am glad I did. Perhaps I need to move away from old fiction such as Ian Fleming. Food for thought…..
